A fun and educational horticultural project for 18+ year olds with learning and physical disabilities.
‘Don’t Lose the Plot’ is a horticultural project working with young people who have additional needs living in the East Surrey area.
Gardening has many benefits: physical, cognitive, social and psychological. We want to promote these benefits to our young people encouraging them to develop as individuals and to become active members of their local community through gardening.
This project will enable young people have the opportunity to grow fruit, vegetables and flowers on our allotment and garden out in the community at local parks and clearing allotment plots with Reigate & Banstead council. The project will become a social enterprise where young people will be able to offer their skills to the local community and other community groups.
We are also developing a new allotment plot which will allow us to work on the site all year round. This will have a polytunnel and wheelchair accessible raised beds.
Young people need to wear appropriate clothing and footwear for gardening; waterproof jacket if raining, hat and sun cream for sunny weather etc.
