Increased Short Breaks provision for families

YMCA East Surrey are delighted to announce that we have been commissioned to deliver Play and Leisure Short Breaks for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities across East Surrey. The YMCA have been awarded a 3-year contract, starting in December 2017, to deliver play (Yippee) and youth (Yip4Youth) schemes in Reigate & Banstead, Mole Valley and Epsom and Ewell, as well as a play scheme for Tandridge.

Who we are?

We’re a vibrant, local charity that helps vulnerable children, young people and adults to belong, contribute and thrive. YMCA East Surrey has 15 years experience of delivering play and leisure schemes for children and young people with disabilities in Reigate & Banstead and was one of the founding members of the Play and Leisure Consortium. Our excellent team of qualified and experienced staff deliver schemes on Saturdays, throughout all school holidays and after school. Our schemes offer a variety of activities and day trips and aim to help children and young people gain confidence, learn new skills, stay safe and healthy and find a sense of belonging but above all, have fun! YMCA believes that every child and young person regardless of ability or need should be able to enjoy fun activities in safe and stimulating surroundings.

Yippee is the YMCA’s warm and welcoming playscheme for children aged 5-11 with a wide range of disabilities and complex needs. Yippee provides age appropriate activities for children, ensuring that they can play with friends and try out new activities, whilst giving families a break from caring.

Yip4Youth is our fun and friendly youth club, weekend and school holiday scheme for 12-18 year olds. Yip4Youth ensures that young people with disabilities can meet up with friends and try out new activities in a safe and friendly environment. Yip4Youth provides age-appropriate youth-led activities for teenagers, supported by our qualified and experienced staff.

YMCA East Surrey has a non-exclusion policy and will never turn away a child whatever his or her needs. We aim to ensure each child:-

  • Will be respected as an individual, listened to, have their feelings respected and opinions valued.
  • Will be respected as an individual, listened to, have their feelings respected and opinions valued.
  • Has access to stimulating fun and creative activities, supporting and encouraging each child’s individual stage of physical, intellectual, social and emotional growth.
  • Is given the opportunity to make new friends, discover new skills, realise their full potential and develop confidence and positive image.
  • Will be welcomed into a safe, secure environment with a happy, friendly atmosphere.
  • Will be cared for by experienced and skilled staff that understand and value the needs of children.
  • Will be given praise, encouragement and the opportunity to succeed in an environment where positive behaviour is promoted and self-discipline is encouraged.
  • Will be encouraged to show consideration and respect for each other, staff members and the environment.

On all our schemes, we reserve 40% of spaces for children and young people who require 1-2-1 support and schemes are fully inclusive and can accommodate all special educational needs and disabilities. These schemes are open to all Surrey residents.
