Increased Short Breaks service from December 2017
We are pleased to announce that we will be expanding our current service of Short Breaks in Reigate & Banstead for children and young people with disabilities to new venues across Epsom & Ewell, Tandridge and Mole Valley from December 2017 (subject to the Surrey County Council’s Cabinet decision to award on 18 July 17 which will be informed by SCC’s latest engagement planned for 8 May – 16 June – details below).

We would like to reassure all parents and carers that we are planning to offer high quality provision for children with all levels of need including those requiring one to one support. We know what a vital lifeline quality short breaks offer, so please be assured that we are committed to providing the best possible support for all families. We are very hopeful that we will be able to use the same venues and retain as many of the existing staff as possible to ensure a smooth transition and we are determined to give every child, whatever their needs, the best possible experience.

YMCA East Surrey has 15 years experience of delivering play and leisure schemes for children and young people in Reigate & Banstead and was one of the founding members of the Play and Leisure Consortium. Our excellent team of qualified and experienced staff deliver schemes on Saturdays, throughout all school holidays and after school. Our schemes offer a variety of activities and day trips and aim to help children and young people gain confidence, learn new skills, stay safe and healthy and find a sense of belonging but above all, have fun! YMCA believes that every child and young person regardless of ability or need should be able to enjoy fun activities in safe and stimulating surroundings.

We will be holding two open events on Wednesday 31 May  and Friday 9 June at the YMCA Sovereign Centre in Reigate where you are welcome to come along and find out more about YMCA East Surrey and our services for children and young people with disabilities. Information about how you can get involved in giving your feedback to Surrey County Council on the proposed offer for Surrey

Surrey County Council are keen to use this time as an opportunity to hear back from families and would like your views on the new proposed offer before the County Council’s Cabinet makes its final decision on 18 July 2017. The information that you provide will be considered by Cabinet before they make the final decision and will be used to help plan for a smooth transition to any new services on 1 December 2017.

Every few years, Surrey County Council is legally required to re-issue contracts to providers of short breaks services. Whilst this legal process can cause uncertainty for a time, it also has many benefits. It provides an opportunity to listen to families, explore options for the future and develop the best possible services in response to changing needs. It also helps to ensure that public funding is being spent on the highest quality services that offer the best value for money to residents. This may mean re-appointing an existing provider, should they put forward the strongest proposals, or a change to a new provider.

From 8 May – 16 June, families are invited to give Surrey County Council their views on the new proposed offer in a number of ways, including:

Leatherhead | Monday 15 May | 9.30am to 11am and 7pm to 9pm
Our Lady and St Peter, Garlands Road, Leatherhead KT22 7EZ

Walton-on-Thames | Wednesday 17 May | 9.30am to 11am and 7pm to 9pm
Hersham Village Hall, Queens Road, Walton-on-Thames KT12 5LT

Camberley | Thursday 18 May | 9.30am to 11am and 7pm to 9pm
Old Dean Youth Club, Kingston Road, Camberley GU15 4AF

Redhill | Tuesday 23 May | 9.30 to 11am

Guildford | Tuesday 9 June | 9.30am to 11am and 6pm to 8.15pm

Please do give your views about these proposals, how you may be affected by them and your thoughts on families can be supported. The information that you give us will be used to inform the Council’s Cabinet’s final decision on awarding the new contracts on 18 July 2017.
