YMCA’s OnSide Inclusive Sports project works with people aged 14-30 years with a disability across East Surrey.
We provide opportunities for young people to participate in a range of sports and physical activities. Young people can also work towards sport leadership awards and there are volunteering opportunities for both those with and without disabilities.
Disability Sports Club – The multi sports club runs in partnership with de Stafford Sports Centre and offers at least four different activities each week, as well as regular access to gym, swimming pool and trampolining.
YMCA’s Disability Sports Club takes place in a relaxed and welcoming environment in a large sports hall, with a comfortable café lounge next door. Come and meet new friends through play, fun and enjoyment whilst gaining confidence learning new skills.
Based at de Stafford Sports Centre, Caterham, Surrey, CR3 5YX
7.30-9.15pm – for ages 18+ years. Term time only.
Led Cycle Rides – Join in our inclusive mountain biking sessions for young people aged 14 and over with disabilities.
With qualified leaders, groups for all abilities, and miles and miles of great rides following off road tracks and routes, you won’t find a better way to get outdoors, keep fit and have fun.
Cost: £25 per person
Tandem places available upon request
Helmets and bikes can be supplied but we do ask that all participants come suitably dressed for weather appropriate cycling. Advanced booking is required for all cycling sessions to ensure that we have
adequate equipment, staff and space as well as to ensure your safety whilst on the ride as rides vary in difficulty.
Inclusive physical activity sessions for schools
We believe every child can enjoy physical activity. YMCA East Surrey’s qualified coaches can deliver a range of inclusive sports and activities which focus on each individual child’s abilities and aim to encourage a love of sport.
We work with a number of specialist schools to support delivery of an inclusive PE and school sport curriculum. Activities are based around the FUNdamentals of Movement – agility, balance and coordination – as well as the importance of play, fun and enjoyment in sport. Pupils benefit from skills which are transferable across many sports.
As well as providing all equipment, our activities are run by qualified and experienced Sports Coaches with enhanced DBS disclosure. Our comprehensive Health and Safety and Safeguarding policies also underpin all of our delivery.
“We are really proud of the great joint working and excellent outcomes that the students have achieved thanks to YMCA East Surrey and we would wish for this to continue.”
