Y2Y North Downs Marathon
Sunday 11 March 2018
The Y2Y North Downs Trek will follow the North Downs Way along the beautiful Surrey countryside with a variety of walking/running options:
- 26.2 mile Marathon starting at the YMCA in Guildford
- 13 mile Half Marathon starting in the Denbies Estate
- 5 mile starting at Pilgrim’s Way in Reigate
All routes finish at YMCA East Surrey in Redhill. Each distance is well marked with stunning views, undulating landscapes and occasional challenging hills.
Walk it, run it or both, but don’t miss it! You are driven to your starting point from YMCA East Surrey by our volunteer support crew and can enjoy free refreshments at checkpoints en route. Experienced leaders/backmarkers provide navigational support and everyone receives a commemorative medal, laminated route cards and technical t-shirt. Free parking, showers and refreshments available at the finish.
We will be organising a variety of training walks and runs to help you get ready for this event.
If you fancy an even bigger walking challenge, why not take on the Yorkshire Peaks Challenge from Friday 29 June – Sunday 1 July.
You could also take on our South Downs Way Trek across the Seven Sisters from Lewes to Eastbourne on Sunday 19 August and make it a 2018 Downs Double!
The YMCA Challenge programme was set up to raise money for our charitable work and over the last three years our wonderful participants have raised over £466k in sponsorship which is being used to help build a fabulous £2.6m inclusive sports facility at our site in Princes Rd.
Sponsorship from events in 2018 will go towards helping us expand our play and leisure schemes for children and young people with disabilities across 4 sites in East Surrey. These short breaks help children with complex needs to learn new skills, gain confidence and have fun, whilst offering parents and siblings a vital break from caring.
We are hoping you will help us to reach our 2018 fundraising target of £100k. This money will enable us to offer 300 families in East Surrey an additional 1,040 days of short break provision throughout the year.
The entry fee purely covers the cost of the event. Although we have not specified a target, we are hoping you will feel inspired by our work in the community and what we are trying to achieve and consider fundraising for us.
