Duke of Edinburgh hike

On 6 and 7 August, young people with additional needs took part in a two day hike from Three Bridges along the route 20 and 21 cycle paths to Horley Guide Hut as part of their Duke of Edinburgh award.

October half-term with YMCA East Surrey

During the half term week, 47 different children with disabilities and complex needs attended YMCA East Surrey’s Yippee Playscheme, leading to a total 624 hours of Short Breaks care.

Children attending the Playscheme had a wonderful time taking part in Halloween themed activities, including pizza making, pumpkin carving and enjoying a fancy dress Halloween party. They particularly loved their outing to Bocketts Farm, where members of the group stroked some of the small animals, took a spin around the go-cart track or tried their hand at the milking machine.

Summer Short Breaks with YMCA East Surrey

YMCA East Surrey offers school holiday playschemes for children and young people with additional needs and disabilities at the YMCA Sovereign Centre in Reigate, providing much needed short breaks for many local families.

This summer, 88 children with complex needs and aged between 5 and 11 attended the Yippee playscheme. 45 young people with disabilities aged 12-18 enjoyed the Yip4Youth school holiday scheme.

YMCA to provide increased Short Breaks provision for local families

May half term at the YMCA Sovereign Centre

Date: June 5, 2017

The children and young people have enjoyed the good weather throughout the week and taken part in a variety of activities as always.

Yippee playscheme for children aged 5-11 years with disabilities welcomed 107 attendances from 51 children over four days. They went on a trip to Tilgate Park, where they were fascinated by an exclusive ‘Meet the animals’ session and then had the chance to burn off some energy in the playground. The children have also been on a scavenger hunt and had a go at many different sports and games.
