The Island | Redhill to and around the Isle of Wight in 2 or 3 days
Friday 4 – Sunday 6 June 2021

We may not be able to go to Bruges, but we can offer you the trip of the summer from Redhill to and around the Isle of Wight and back in 2 or 3 days.

Join us on this wonderful 200-mile road cycle from Redhill around the Isle of Wight! We offer free training right up to the event and will guide and help you on all aspects on cycling, from cycling on roads to what gear to wear and advice on the right bike to use. We will ensure you gain all the skills you need to make this an event to remember.

Want to raise the bar a little? Then do it in two days, the choice is yours. Both 3 and 2 day options are fully supported and the cost of the trip includes free training, all travel, accommodation, breakfast, lunch, commemorative medal and bespoke YMCA The Island cycle shirt. All luggage will be transported back to the YMCA for you to pick up on Sunday evening.

Lonely Planet listed the Isle of Wight as number 1 in a list of 10 trips that should be on every cyclist’s wishlist. It said: “The Isle of Wight is a cycling paradise that is home to some of the UK’s most varied terrain: lush velvet hills rolling into the sea, narrow lanes through tidy hedgerows, deep and mysterious green gullies, and the island’s most striking feature, the ridge of white chalk cliffs stretching across its breadth.”

Come and find out for yourself and join us cycling around The Island!

3 day option | Friday 4 - Sunday 6 June 2021

The three-day option will leave the YMCA in Redhill on Friday 4 June and start its 160-mile ride by heading to the historic port of Portsmouth where you will spend the night before departing to the harbour to board the ferry over to the Isle of Wight. On arrival, the next part of the route travels around the island starting and finishing at Ryde. On completion, you will get the ferry back to Portsmouth, staying overnight before cycling back to Redhill on Sunday. The route around the Isle of Wight is beautiful and challenging and will be rewarding. We will have a steadier option for anyone who would prefer it, but you don’t have to make your mind up yet, see how you feel nearer the day.

Cost – £290

Includes all transport, support, hotel accommodation, bespoke YMCA The Island cycle shirt and medal.

Pledge to raise £500 to help transform young lives in East Surrey!

The Pandemic has been really tough for all young people but even more so for those who are vulnerable or disadvantaged. All money raised from our 2021 challenge events will go towards our new Life Change Fund. This fund will support a range of YMCA services, projects and programmes to address these needs and help young people build the resilience, belief and confidence to overcome the challenges they face.

Here are just a few of our projects that the Life Change Fund will support:

  • New £1.5m housing scheme in Horley for 12 young people aged 18+
  • New youth work offer reaching over 1,000 young people aged 11–19
  • New emotional wellbeing and mental health service supporting over 2,300 young people
  • YMCA Young Volunteers Project
