Session information

Arts Award – Friday
Explore different art activities and produce creative work. Attendance can be used to work towards an Arts Award but this is optional. Participants will be able to create their own professional portfolio of art work to take home and will receive ongoing tuition from experienced staff in a range of different areas such as photography, drawing, pottery, painting, model making and much more.

Café Experience – Tuesday & Thursday
A life skills focused scheme during which attendees learn café and hospitality related skills such as general cleaning, food safety, hygienic hot and cold food preparation, setting up a professional café operation, managing customer tables, taking orders, providing a full cycle hospitality service to customers and money management. Along with functional skills attendees also develop experience working within a team based environment, supporting each other to achieve common aims, whilst building social skills and confidence through engagement with a wide and varied audience consisting of peers, café customers and YMCA staff and affiliates

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award – Monday
Based Primarily from Woodfield school in Merstham for young people aged 14–18 years with disabilities. The DofE gives young people the chance to try new experiences, being active and healthy and pursuing interests. The DofE takes you into a place where you’ll push yourself and have amazing new experiences.

You’ll build confidence, resilience, skills and friendship groups and have a brilliant time doing it. It gives you the added benefit of gaining a competitive edge as employers regard a DofE Award highly so it will help open the right doors for you. Many of  the skills you gain can be applied to your studies as well as your personal and social development.

Gardening & Craft – Wednesday
This exciting session gets young people learning gardening skills and socialising in the fresh air at our allotment. As well as developing gardening techniques and finding out more about where our food comes from, the group is working towards becoming a social enterprise with an environmental mission to get out and use their new-found skills to brighten up community outside spaces. The group will also take part in craft activities if the weather is bad. Based at our allotment in Redhill as well as other sites around Reigate and Banstead.

Sports Award – Monday & Friday
An active and varied scheme. Attendees engage within a wide variety of physical activity, improve their sporting skills and prowess, and embrace the benefits of physical health and wellbeing. Occasional out trips encourage attendees to try new sports and activities in public settings building confidence within the wider community. Regular social time allows attendees to develop connections with each other and ultimately social confidence and esteem. Participants who attend regularly will be able to work towards a basic sports leadership certificate and/or recognised sports leadership qualification with Sports Leaders UK.

Supported Lunch – Friday
Our supported lunch allows young people attending the morning arts group to be supported by our staff before coming to the sports sessions. Attendees need to provide their own lunch and we provide the support.
