South Downs Trek
Sunday 18 August 2019
The South Downs Trek is the exhilarating one-day walk offering 22 miles of stunning views and beautiful countryside starting from Lewes and finishing in the seaside town of Eastbourne.
Our team of experienced walkers will encourage and guide you along the way and our support crew will be available at Alfriston and Birling Gap to refill your bottles and provide free tea, coffee and light refreshments. Rail fare to and from Eastbourne will be included in the £25 entry fee and all walkers will be awarded with a commemorative medal and technical t-shirt.Book now
Join our free, friendly and fun training programme designed to give you the fitness and stamina you will need to achieve your goal. Training walks are taking place on Sunday 13 January and Sunday 17 February both leaving the YMCA in Redhill at 09:00 with refreshments available before and on your return.
We also recommend that you take part in the Y2Y North Downs Trek taking place on Sunday 24 March – make it a Downs Double! The Y2Y has the choice of a 26.2 or 13.1 mile trek across the North Downs. There are no official training sessions after this event, but the 10 Peaks Challenge team will be organising training walks which you are more than welcome to attend.
The entry fee purely covers the cost of the event. Although we have not specified a target, we are hoping you will feel inspired by our work in the community and what we are trying to achieve and consider fundraising for us.
Here at YMCA East Surrey, we are renowned for our activities for adults and children with disabilities offering a wide range of services and activities to help people improve their health and wellbeing. Another major part of our work is to provide services for young people struggling with emotional wellbeing, finding employment and experiencing homelessness. All money raised from our events this year, will provide much needed funds to ensure we can continue this charitable work and provide a safe and inclusive community for our children and young people.
Housing and Homelessness
YMCA Hillbrook House gives young homeless people somewhere to stay and supports them to move on with their lives. Our NextStep rent deposit scheme helps local vulnerable people access private rented accommodation.
Sport and Fitness
The YMCA Sports and Community Centre is a lively and energetic place for local people to get fit, try new things, challenge themselves and make friends. From sessions in our fitness gym, classes in our exercise studio (over 50 each week!), badminton and table tennis, there is something for everyone to enjoy. An on-site crèche allows parents to exercise while little ones play.
Our Exercise Referral programme enables people with a chronic health condition, those who are rehabilitating from an injury, illness or have a disability to engage in physical activity to help them lead a healthier, independent and more active lifestyle.
Our inclusive playschemes help children with disabilities play alongside typically developed children whilst Yippee club gives children with a wide range of disabilities and complex needs a chance to play with their friends. Yip4Youth helps young people with disabilities become more independent by trying out new activities.
Our qualified youth works provide youth activities for young people across East Surrey, with a focus on those who are vulnerable or have a disability. Heads Together offers free counselling to help young people overcome difficult life events.
We run a wide range of children’s activities, including a pre-school, after school clubs, holiday playschemes, term-time sports and activities, children’s parties, as well as fun sessions for under 5’s. We believe in engaging children in a range of activities that boost self-confidence and build new friendships.
