Y2Y North Downs Trek

Y2Y North Downs Marathon Trek
Sunday 24 March 2019

The Y2Y North Downs Trek, now in its thirteenth year, will follow the North Downs Way along the beautiful Surrey countryside. The 26.2m Marathon starts at YMCA Downslink in Guildford, the 13.1m Half Marathon at Ranmore Common with both finishing at YMCA East Surrey in Redhill. Each distance is well marked with stunning views, undulating landscapes and occasional challenging hills.

Walk it, run it or both, but don’t miss it! You are driven to starting points by our volunteer support crew and can enjoy free refreshments at checkpoints en route. A 5 mile walking option is available for those new to long distance walking. Experienced leaders/backmarkers provide navigational support and everyone receives a commemorative medal and technical t-shirt. Free parking, showers and refreshments available at the finish.

Join our free, friendly and fun training programme designed to give you the fitness and stamina you will need to achieve your goal. Training walks are taking place on Sunday 13 January and Sunday 17 February both leaving the YMCA in Redhill at 09:00 with refreshments available before and on your return.

If you want to take part in other walking events you can check out our 10 Peaks Challenge in June or our South Downs Trek in August – make it a Downs Double!

The entry fee purely covers the cost of the event. Although we have not specified a target, we are hoping you will feel inspired by our work in the community and what we are trying to achieve and consider fundraising for us.

Here at YMCA East Surrey, we are renowned for our activities for adults and children with disabilities offering a wide range of services and activities to help people improve their health and wellbeing. Another major part of our work is to provide services for young people struggling with emotional wellbeing, finding employment and experiencing homelessness. All money raised from our events this year, will provide much needed funds to ensure we can continue this charitable work and provide a safe and inclusive community for our children and young people.

Housing and Homelessness
YMCA Hillbrook House gives young homeless people somewhere to stay and supports them to move on with their lives. Our NextStep rent deposit scheme helps local vulnerable people access private rented accommodation.

Sport and Fitness
The YMCA Sports and Community Centre is a lively and energetic place for local people to get fit, try new things, challenge themselves and make friends. From sessions in our fitness gym, classes in our exercise studio (over 50 each week!), badminton and table tennis, there is something for everyone to enjoy. An on-site crèche allows parents to exercise while little ones play.

Our Exercise Referral programme enables people with a chronic health condition, those who are rehabilitating from an injury, illness or have a disability to engage in physical activity to help them lead a healthier, independent and more active lifestyle.

Our inclusive playschemes help children with disabilities play alongside typically developed children whilst Yippee club gives children with a wide range of disabilities and complex needs a chance to play with their friends. Yip4Youth helps young people with disabilities become more independent by trying out new activities.

Our qualified youth works provide youth activities for young people across East Surrey, with a focus on those who are vulnerable or have a disability. Heads Together offers free counselling to help young people overcome difficult life events.

We run a wide range of children’s activities, including a pre-school, after school clubs, holiday playschemes, term-time sports and activities, children’s parties, as well as fun sessions for under 5’s. We believe in engaging children in a range of activities that boost self-confidence and build new friendships.

The best way to fundraise is to set up your unique Virginmoneygiving fundraising page. If you prefer the more traditional method of fundraising, please download your official sponsorship form. Alternatively, you can make a donation to YMCA East Surrey to help fund this important community facility.
