At YMCA East Surrey, we believe every young person deserves a safe place to live. We provide safe, secure and affordable housing and support services to give young people a fresh start in life.

Working closely with local authorities and other partners, we strive to provide quality, value-for-money housing. As well as providing a home, we offer tailored support services to each resident. We aim to empower residents to gain the tools and skills that enable stability, independent living, promising futures, and connection to their communities.

As a Registered Provider of Social Housing, we are determined to continue developing more housing projects to give more young people the opportunity to build independence and succeed in life.

Semi-independent Housing

NextStep

YMCA Hillbrook House in Redhill offers safe, affordable accommodation and support services for 16-30-year-olds. Residents can stay for up to two years and we can help with access to benefits.

Each resident receives a personal support plan to help them work towards becoming independent. We encourage residents to access education, training, employment and volunteering wherever possible. Hillbrook House is more than a place to stay – it’s somewhere young people feel safe and valued, can build trust and develop the skills and confidence needed to move on with life.

To aid the transition from supported accommodation to independent living, we have several smaller semi-independent properties in Horley, Merstham, and Redhill that provide a stepping stone towards self-reliance.

In these properties, we offer less intensive support while still working with young people to gain confidence and independence.

Our NextStep project provides housing and benefit advice, as well as access to private rented accommodation, to families and individuals referred by the local authority who are at risk of becoming homeless or in emergency accommodation. This free service for landlords finds potential tenants and supports both parties to ensure a smooth tenancy.

Applying for accommodation

Moving a young person into the YMCA is an important part of the process to guarantee safeguarding, suitable support needs, and to maintain stability.

Young people are accepted for long-term and emergency beds (up to 10 days). Referrals are made through the Surrey County Council placement team, and are accepted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Referrals can also be made through Reigate & Banstead Borough Council for young people with a local connection. Unfortunately, we are not able to accept self-referrals.
