Y Bus / Street Talk

YMCA East Surrey’s qualified youth workers engage with young people throughout East Surrey.

Street Talk is our extensive detached youth work programme. Our youth workers engage with young people in their space, with a view to building up a rapport, offering information, advice and guidance, as well as organising activities and promoting the local youth offer.

We aim to support young people, particularly those who display risk factors linked to them offending or becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training), by helping them reach their full potential.

Y Bus – bringing activities and support to young people in their communities.

The Y Bus has a small seating area inside and is fitted with a games console, iPad, TV and free WiFi. With its own generator and kitchen facilities, it can run a microwave and a toaster and provide hot drinks and other refreshments.

It provides a focal point for activities, as well as information, advice and guidance on issues such as staying safe, peer pressure and mental wellbeing. This fantastic resource has been funded by YMCA Challenge Participants and Safer Streets funding from the Home Office.

Look out for the Y Bus and our youth workers in and around Redhill at the following times:

Mondays | 18:00-20:00 (Timperley Gardens)
Tuesdays | 18:00-20:00 (Cromwell Estate)
Wednesdays | 17:30-19:30 (Merstham)
Thursdays | 15:30-16:30 (Whitebushes Estate)

All of our youth workers have completed an enhanced DBS check.
