YMCA Supported Housing

Are you aged 16–35 and not living in permanent accommodation?

Our supported housing consists of five properties across East Surrey, which offer a range of services from 24-hour support to semi-independent living for young homeless people.

YMCA Hillbrook House provides 44 rooms and 24-hour staffed services. We also provide semi-independent living accommodation across four smaller properties. Support is delivered by keyworkers in one-to-one key work sessions, as well as group work and activities which are linked to individual support plans. Our key workers provide help, support, information, as well as access to employment, training and education opportunities. We also provide links with statutory and other agencies/organisations that give specialist services and support, such as counselling.

We offer so much more than somewhere to stay. Our supported housing projects provide a place where young people feel safe and valued, form friendships, and develop the skills and confidence to move on with their lives.

Thank you so much for helping me out when I needed it most. You have helped me more than you could know.

Jamie, ex-resident

Our housing offer

The range of services available to residents includes:

  • Quality, affordable housing
  • Individual Support Plans to aid personal development
  • Providing awareness of relevant opportunities for self improvement
  • Access to partnership service providers – if we cannot help you with an issue we will work with you to find someone who can
  • Counselling service
  • Key life skills and personal budgeting support
  • Someone to listen to you, in confidence.

Each resident is assigned a key worker. Your key worker will assist you during your stay with us, be your main point of contact and will work with you to put together an Individual Support Plan.

The Individual Support Plan is an opportunity to develop skills and abilities and puts down in writing your support needs and what both YMCA Hillbrook House and you will do to help you move forward and achieve your goals. This will assist you in gaining the skills that you need to maintain your accommodation and eventually confidently move into more permanent accommodation, engage with the local community and thrive. How often you meet is up to you to agree, and your key worker (with your permission) will liaise with other agencies on your behalf to obtain the best possible support for you.

We offer real opportunities for young people to get involved in the running of your service. Residents’ meetings are a great opportunity to meet other residents, have your say, and get involved or become a residents’ representative and liaise with staff on any current concerns in your community, as well as helping us devise a program of activities throughout the year. Support is provided to help residents participate in and chair meetings.
