YMCA East Surrey’s qualified youth workers engage with young people throughout East Surrey. We aim to support young people who display risk factors linked to them becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) or offending, by helping them reach their full potential.
Street Talk is our extensive detached youth work programme. Working in the heart of local communities engaging young people in their space, with a view to building up a rapport, offering information, advice and guidance, as well as organising activities and promoting the local youth offer.
Our youth workers currently work in the following areas:
Thursdays | 18:00-20:00
Reigate – Woodhatch
Redhill – around town centre
Fridays | 15:00-17:00
Horley – around recreational ground and surrounding area
Support our Y-Bus appeal!
Through Your Fund Surrey, we have submitted an exciting proposal for a new ‘Y-Bus’ – a mobile youth club on wheels to reach the young people of Whitebushes and other areas of East Surrey where there is little or no youth provision.
The aim of the bus is to offer activities, advice and support to all young people across East Surrey, with a particular focus on those who may be vulnerable, at-risk or disadvantaged. Our youth workers will take the bus to local communities on a regular evening each week, offering 10-18 year olds a safe space to relax and hang out with friends.
The bus will have a small seating area inside and will be kitted with a games console, iPad and TV. The bus will have its own generator so it can run a microwave and a toaster, and provide hot drinks and other refreshments.
The Y-Bus would help young people to feel safe, confident and supported, providing activities, advice and somewhere to go in the evenings. This will not only help young people to succeed and reach their potential, but will help to strengthen families, support schools and tackle issues such as crime and anti-social behaviour, helping to keep communities happy and safe.
