Are you aged 16–30 and not living in permanent accommodation?

YMCA Hillbrook House offers safe, secure and affordable accommodation and related services for young homeless people. We can help you access housing benefit to pay for your stay, and you can stay for up to two years.

The facility consists of 44 self-contained bedsit rooms (one of which is specifically designed for disabled access), an activity room, and laundry facilities. 40 of these include housing support, where you will be supported in accessing education, training or work as part of the move towards independent living.

We offer so much more than somewhere to stay. YMCA Hillbrook House is a community – a place where young people feel safe and valued, a place to make friendships and build trust, a place to master the skills and gain the confidence to move on with your life.

Thank you so much for helping me out when I needed it most. You have helped me more than you could know.

Jamie, ex-resident

We offer real opportunities for young people to get involved in the running of your service. Residents meetings are a great opportunity to meet other residents, have your say and get involved or become a residents’ representative and liaise with staff on any current concerns in your community, as well as helping us devise a program of activities through the year. Training is provided to help residents participate in and chair meetings.

The range of services available to residents:

  • Quality, affordable housing
  • Individual Action Plans to aid personal development
  • Providing awareness of relevant opportunities for self improvement
  • Access to partnership service providers – if we cannot help you with an issue we will work with you to find someone who can
  • Counselling to support moving on
  • Debt management and personal budgeting
  • Someone to listen to you, in confidence.

Each resident is assigned a key worker. Your key worker will assist you during your stay with us, be your main point of contact and will work with you to put together an individual Action Plan.

The Action Plan is an opportunity to develop skills and abilities and puts down in writing your support needs and what both YMCA Hillbrook House and you will do to help you move forward and achieve your goals. This will assist you in gaining the skills that you need to maintain your accommodation and eventually confidently move into more permanent accommodation and engage with the local community and thrive. How often you meet is up to you to agree, and your key worker (with your permission) will liaise with other agencies on your behalf to obtain the best possible support for you.
