YMCA East Surrey’s qualified youth workers work with young people throughout East Surrey. We aim to engage with young people who display risk factors linked to them becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) or offending, by supporting them to reach their full potential.
Street Talk is our extensive detached youth work programme. Working in the heart of local communities engaging young people in their space, with a view to building up rapport, offering information, advice and guidance, as well as offering exciting activities and promoting the local youth offer.
Our youth workers work in the following areas:
Redhill – Whitebushes Common
Mondays | 18:00-20:00
Tadworth – around Phoenix Youth Centre and Marble Way shops
Tuesdays | 17:30-19:30
Horley – around Cambridge Lodge park
Thursdays | 17:30-19:30
Redhill – around town centre
Fridays | 17:30-19:30
By engaging with young people, we can signpost to other relevant services, as well as our own projects such as:
Express Yourself – a creative media art project that aims to enable young people to express themselves through developing their skills in photography, film making, animation and graphic design.
Escape – a diversionary project that runs during school holidays creating opportunities for young people at risk to engage for the first time in youth work activities and offsite trips, allowing the youth work team to begin building relationships and rapport with young people.
Heads Together counselling offers young people aged 14-24 a safe, confidential space to talk about things that are troubling them. Young people are able to access free support from a member of our team who is trained to listen and to help look at how things can be improved.
