Children and adults of all ages with additional needs or disabilities can enjoy the world of the Paralympic sport of Boccia with the YMCA.
Boccia is a social and interactive game where participants can develop their team work and hand/eye coordination skills. We do ask that participants must be supported throughout the session by a parent or carer.
The club runs every other Saturday from 12.30-1.30pm at the YMCA Sports and Community Centre in Redhill.
Cost per session is £1.80.
What is Boccia?
A Paralympic sport, Boccia is similar to Bowls, and is a sport played in over 40 countries worldwide. Unlike Bowls, this is not a sedentary game for the retired – regular players take the game very seriously and become highly competitive, which guarantees a lively and exciting game for both players and audience alike!
As Boccia is played from a seated position it is an ideal sport for players in wheelchairs but is enjoyed by players of all ages and disabilities.
YMCA East Surrey’s Boccia Club applied for Sport England’s Clubmark and, in October 2015, passed with flying colours, becoming the only Boccia Club in England to hold this accreditation.
In February 2016, the Club also achieved Boccia England’s Level 2 Accreditation.
Our Boccia Club won Reigate & Banstead Sports Awards’ Club of the Year award in October 2016.
