After two years when consecutive lockdowns put large community events on hold, the YMCA East Surrey Fun Run is back in Reigate’s Priory Park on Sunday 1 May 2022.

“It is going to feel extra special this May Bank Holiday to welcome everyone – familiar faces and new ones – to Priory Park, put them under starter’s orders and cheer them on as they run.” says YMCA East Surrey’s Chief Executive, Ian Burks.

“The annual YMCA Fun Run has been a regular date on the calendar for many local people over the years and is a significant fixture in our fundraising Challenge programme. We can’t wait!”

YMCA East Surrey has been in existence for 150 years and the charity, based in Redhill, helps local people and particularly children and young people to belong, contribute and thrive.

Ian credits running with helping to keep him fit, healthy and sane through the recent pandemic.

“One of the main aims of the YMCA Fun Run is to help people gain the physical and emotional benefits of being active. Coronavirus has had a massive impact on many people in East Surrey, particularly our young people, but getting active in the beautiful Surrey countryside is the perfect way to boost wellbeing.”

The YMCA Fun Run, alongside Reigate and Banstead’s Sports Festival, will take place on Sunday 1st May. With 1-mile races for adults, juniors and children and a 5-mile race for adults, plus taster sessions and demonstrations from local sports clubs, a climbing wall, trampolines, a bouncy castle and lots of event stalls, this is a perfect day out for all the family.

All race participants receive an exclusive YMCA t-shirt and commemorative medal and the funds raised will go towards YMCA East Surrey’s vital work supporting young people through homeless accommodation and youth interventions.

“There are great benefits to be had from encouraging a love of exercise within your family,” says Ian Burks.

“Whatever your level of fitness, we have a race that you can enjoy, so please join us on 1st May to celebrate the return of the YMCA Fun Run.”
